The Kensi embarks on a $2M renovation to refresh iconic local hotel
Neighbourhood favourite, the Kensington Hotel (the Kensi), is undergoing an exciting $2 million transformation, delivering a significant refresh across its restaurant, wine bar and function spaces while continuing to trade throughout the renovation.
With a refined Hamptons-inspired aesthetic the upgrade will introduce lighter interiors, improved natural light and elevated furnishings, creating a brighter and more inviting atmosphere.
The redesign will enhance the overall flow and functionality of the hotel, ensuring it caters seamlessly to everything from relaxed long lunches and casual drinks to private functions and milestone celebrations.
Hotel Manager, Chris Eitzen, said the renovation signals a new chapter for the Kensi, while honouring the character and familiarity locals value.
“The goal is to refresh and elevate the space while keeping the personality our regulars know and love. We’re creating a lighter, more welcoming environment that works just as well for everyday dining as it does for special occasions,” Chris said.
The transformation will see the addition of a new private boardroom, a revitalised alfresco area and a striking new skylight designed to flood the venue with natural light. A revamped wine display and additional windows will further open up the space, enhancing the sense of warmth and airiness throughout.
Designed by Fleur Linke from Surround Interiors, the updated interior embraces timeless hospitality design, layered textures and soft coastal tones to deliver a sophisticated yet relaxed setting that feels both contemporary and enduring.
Construction is being delivered by Response Carpentry Constructions, with works carefully staged to ensure the venue remains fully operational during the renovation period.
Chris said maintaining trade throughout the works was a priority. “We know how important the Kensi is to the local community, so keeping the doors open while we transform the space was essential. Guests can continue to enjoy the venue as we bring the new look to life!”
The transformation is expected to be completed in June. Once complete, the refreshed Kensi is set to further cement its place as a destination for dining, drinks and gatherings in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs.
